The Yardbirds, London Time Volume 2 (feat. Eric Clapton)
Label: RReMark / Subharmonic

This thrilling early set from the Yardbirds boasts spectacular guitar playing by two guitar legends (Clapton and Page). Whether tearing up the center of the rollicking "Choker" or stumbling across the terrifically muddy "Draggin 'My Tail", the 'birds find the middle ground between the blues and garage rock and revel in it. Some of the material here is so gritty and dirty it would sound at home among the riotous Nuggets-worshippers on the Sundazed label. Longtime fans will enjoy London Time, Vol. 2 as a historical document, but newcomers skeptical of Clapton and Page's classic rock pedigree will be surprised and charmed by their ragged beginnings.

I say ...

eMusicMiner

Classic bluesy rock and then some featuring two of the greatest guitarists of our time. Brilliant, just brilliant!

Don't throw out #8

BigD-Bluez

Don't throw out #8 (see below), it's Eric Clapton with John Mayall and is a hot track. See the inexplicable double listing of this album for other track info.

Pretty Cool Stuff!

This is why emusic is an excellent site, I was surprised finding this. "Throw out" #7-8-9-12, that's Yardbirds stuff. I had first discovered these (on LPs) 35+ yrs ago in Anthology of British Blues, V 1 & 2, with one on RCA British Archive Series V 4. I have always loved this because they are simply blues musicians, doing basic instrumentals, that are straightforward and could be packaged as a Blues Play-along for guitar players. The only similar thing I can think of is a BB King LP, "Easy Listening Blues," Crown 5286, that is all instrumentals as well. By the way, on #2-6-11, it's M.Jagger(harp), B.Wyman(bs), Ian Stewart(pno) & Chris Winter(drms).

A Few Choice 'Birds Tracks

Kelleyzinho

As the other reviewer noted, most of these tracks are instrumentals featuring only Clapton and Page. However, there is a great live Yardbirds cover of Bo Diddley's "You Can't Judge a Book By its Cover" -- classic maraca-shaking freakbeat! Plus the usual live Yardbirds fare -- Good Morning Little Schoolgirl and Smokestack Lightnin'.

Clapton and Page

Griffon

According to the website Where's Eric, in 1966, Jimmy Page recorded several tracks with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and others as The Powerhouse at Page's home studio. Immediate Records originally released seven Clapton/Page guitar instrumentals. They are “Snake Drive,” “Tribute To Elmore,” “West Coast Idea,” “Freight Loader,” “Draggin’ My Tail,” “Choker,” and “Miles Road,” likely the same versions included here (and countless other compilations, usually as Eric Clapton and the Yardbirds or Clapton and Page - though eMusic's listing as The Yardbirds is stretching it).
