I agree with the other reviewers - an excellent album. Interesting selection of 20/21st century guitar - really like the juxtaposing of Reich and Takemitsu against the (I suspect) Scandanvian composers. emusic tagging doesn't include composer information or other track detail - easy enough to find on the web. Bought it initially because it 'sounded nice' on audition but after I started listening carefully, found there's a lot of substance both in the pieces and the playing. Good stuff.

Like the previous reviewer I think this is a tremendous find - a whole new dimension (at least for me) in the guitar catalogue and 20C contemporary music.

Where's this guy been hiding? This is an example of what makes emusic.com so fascinating; evey now and then a true sleeper comes up without fanfare, and provides a real surprise. Mats Bergstrom is a first rate guitarist, and I cannot see why he is not much better known. Apparently he likes to please himself first, considering his non-mainstream choices (albeit with a couple of well known composers included). The music selection is enough off the beaten track to be interesting, but without alienating the listener who wants to get some enjoyment without working too hard. Bergstrom wants to wake us up, but without annoying us. The clarity and smoothness of his delivery make for an all round enjoyable experience.
