Compilation Album

cricket143

Because no one else has mentioned it, and I've found that I'm not the only one who got burned (admittedly through not being cautious), let me note that this is actually a compilation album. Sure, it's great stuff, but it's still a comp, eg. "It's All Me" and "I Can't Be Trusted" (from Truly and Serial, respectively).

Too cool!

Schproing

Well produced retro sounds, including sitar, Spanish guitar, and the Hammond B3. Good sing-along album, too. I like this. My one criticism is the bit rate: 118 kbs on some of the cuts.

For those who know Holly already, this album is not as consistent and strong as Truly She Is None Other. It's a compilation. And it is full of little gems.***It's All Me*** has an acoustic guitar part that hints at Spanish folk music against a bluesy Buddy Hollyesque backdrop plus comfortable, sassy vocals and lyrics ("i can't deny deep down inside in my heart i feel better when we're apart, it's all me"). ***The Luckiest Girl*** has a dizzying guitar intro, a shuffling keyboard presence that sounds lifted from The Zombies finest moments, and again covers some great lyrical territory, which is a sort of dialogue between a down n' out hipster and some lucky rich chick. ("everytime i find i see a different kind of misery seeping through the wall. i get to thinking how'd you live this life? i do believe you live them all. / what would you know? you've got everything. you're the luckiest girl in the world.)
