I played this CD to death when I first got it. I like the Popes sparse instrumentation better than the Pogues. You can really enjoy the banjo work of Tom McAnimal on this CD. Perhaps the lyrics are less inspired, but musically this is a gem.
Meh.
I've seen ol' Shane twice live. I'm a huge pogues fan and thought the snake was brilliant. But I found this album to be very uninspired. And I tried over and over to like it. This just feels very phoned in.
