What a revelation!

I had not heard Carolyn Sampson before this recording and have to say that I was blown away. Not only does she sing Bach with great technical virtuosity, controlled within an authentic baroque performance idiom, she actually has a REAL VOICE. What I mean by this is that she is emphatically not of the tonally-undernourished baroque soprano variety, which was pretty much all there was when period performance first hit its stride in the 1980s. A real pleasure to discover an artist of this caliber! And the overall performance is first rate. Stunning!

Carolyn Sampson is the bomb.

I downloaded this album after hearing Carolyn Sampson sing on a Handel English Oratorio abum. I know nothing, or very little, about classical music and cannot tell an excellent cellist from a decent cellist, so take that in mind when I say that this album is solid from top to bottom. Also, with classical the question always is - does that mean I like Bach? The conductor? The performers? Everyone seems to take credit. Should I look for me work of the conductor and the orchestra? I guess so. See what turns up being good.
