Eminently listenable

aeonic65

Junip is a gem of a band. For the supremely reflective, thoughtful, quiet hush of an old-fashioned neo-acoustic (but not to be confused with all that faux-retro-folk the likes of which The Mountain Goats and other small scale pretentious misers play about) this band and this small offering is not to be missed! Get the full-on CD "Fields," and look into singer/songwriter Juan Gonzales who excites me less solo than the fullwork of his pet-project Junip. They lay down the law for me in regards to what can be done to apotheosize seventies MOR or AOR into something stirred up into something clear, crisp, and clean for the noughties. Good band!

Gonzalez takes his art to a new level

I'm a huge fan of Jose's solo work. Before I heard Junip, I thought to myself, "What would it be like for Jose to rock it on an electric?" Well, Junip was all that and more. Droning guitars, organ flowing, ghostly vocals. One thing I appreciate about Jose's work is his choice of cover songs, and then the way he reinterprets them. He truly makes the song his own, as if he had written it himself. Junip's take on Springsteen meets my expectation. I only hope that Jose keeps Junip rolling as a side project!

Yay Jose

Hallogallo

This is the cryptic band which Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez plays in. As powerful as Jose's quiet solo work is, Junip is a trio making equally powerful music --building crescendoes of orchestrated minimalism. Think Sigur Ros or Yo La Tengo's organ-based songs. Jose's plaintive voice adds the melody to this dark and compelling music. It's great.
