Dude, this album is SICK! but I agree unspecial Effects is by far the best, I Forget is probably my 2nd.
I've seen live (DJ) sets and they were great. Aside from that, this album sounds more like influence than artistry. Note: the anti- Boards of Canada quip titled 'Bored of Canada' featuring a weakly-composed parody of a BoC track. Yeah - because we all know how little they've contributed to electronic music, right?
I may have only downloaded 3 songs, but I listened to them all and Unspecial Effects is by far the best. I just love how piano and techno can come together. Careless is pretty good, and Try Again is more of an acidic style. DeadMau5 is now my favorite techno artist.
* wrong title for this comment * Try Again owes a whole lot to Squarepusher and Aphex Twin. Not really that new of a sound, but definitely very well executed.
this band will kick you in the face with its raw power. Other times, it is really really good. It makes me want to jump in a car and race down an enclosed speedway. To be fair, a song can get repetitive, but their songs do not all sound the same.
i have been on the lookout for more electro house type stuff, and i was delighted to find this collection. very good at high volume!
For me, 8bit was the highlight of the album - at least on first listen. I really don't think it is that experimental - in fact it's really just a straight ahead 4-on the floor high-energy pulser, but with extremely catchy "8bit" layers. Nice!
While one of the tracks on this disc is a bit too experimental for me (8bit), I really enjoyed the overall experience. "8bit" stands apart from the rest of the tracks. There are some tracks of Chemical Brothers break style influence (The Oshawa Connection, Support). My personal favorite is a pop inspired melodic tune called "Edit Your Friends". While some of the vocals could use fine tuning I think this is a fine addition to any electronic fans' collection. It will keep you entertained with each listen. There is something new to hear every time.
