Kevin Kern, In the Enchanted Garden
Label: Real Music

Kevin Kern calls his music “sound-paintings,” which is as probably as good a description as any. But it makes sense to dig deeper. More accurately, Kern's New Age piano playing is like late-period Monet — when viewed from a distance, they're beautiful and ethereal; when examined up-close, they're gauzy and indistinct. Kern admits as much, claiming on his website that “my vision lacks the crisp detail that others may have,” but he immediately counters with an important point: “I have learned to describe what I see through my music.” Audiences have connected with that tranquil vision. In the Enchanted Garden spent 26 weeks on the Billboard charts and the album vaulted him into the upper echelon of solo New Age performers.

Not even for free...

ColtraneWasGod

I have the track that was the Daily Download and, because I paid nothing for it and have not heard the rest of the album, I suppose it isn't too fair for me to rain on the parade. However, I notice this artist has been making (and maybe even selling) records for the last ten years, so somebody must like him. If you are thinking of downloading this guy's music and are not familiar with him, sample him first. As often is the case with New Age Music, this obviously is a guy with some talent who knows he does not have to work at all, because he can phone in some tepid tinkling over and over again without his lazy audience holding him accountable for it. Feh.

Revive and Relax

I love this album. It has melodic piano and really transports you to another zone. This is the one I play when I want to relax and putter around the house on a Sunday morning. Enjoy!
