Even good for non-C&W fans

WrongDemographic

I'm not a fan of c&W and there's no doubt this is country-tinged. (For one thing, there's plenty of steel guitar and Ms. Linden often sings with a down-home accent, which apparently is for art's sake, since she's from Northern California, per her bio.) However, there also is a spare, underproduced quality to this session that makes every note poignant. It doesn't hurt, either, that Wayne Horvitz has a prominent role. I defy you to listen to "Silver Light" and not shiver. Well worth the nine downloads.

Astonishingly good

Byrdnutter

I agree with the other reviewers that this is one exceptional CD, up there with the best to download from eMusic. Vivian has the perfect voice to sing of melancholy and sorrow, yet with an uplifting of spirit.

Outstanding first album

Bluesandstuff

I discovered this recent addition totally by accident, but it is an excellent album. Just keep re-playing it. The mood is sombre, the vocals are excellent - voice, timbre and interpretation - and the musicianship and production throughout are first rate. If you like any of Pieta Brown, Amy Correia, Krista Detor, Diane French, Lori McKenna or Jesse Sykes (all available on e-music) - and I admit that I like all of them - then download this one now. In the spirit of music generosity, trust me!
