Isa's voice has grit and her lyrics reflect that she operates from a realistic self understanding rarely seen in contemporary Christian-themed music. Her music reminds us that, like Jesus, we are to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives,,,eat with sinners, love our enemies, go an extra mile. Thanks, Isa, and to your namesake, Jesus!
Yes, you can't hear Isa Couvertier sing her songs and not be powerfully reminded of Sara Groves, both in the wonderful tone of voice and the interesting and personal songwriting. It goes even further, in that the production and arrangements are similar to Groves' albums like "Conversations". But, I get no sense that her music is derivative or imitative but is excellent and honest on its own terms. Isa's songs tend more to prayerful and Scripturally-derived themes rather than story-telling. All analysis or comparison, aside, you really can't miss downloading this - memorable songs, a gorgeous and earnest voice, excellent production and a variety of styles.
