A genius composer...

DonPaulo

that one day WILL be recognized! His music has the power to inspire, uplift, and so much more. The reason for not being properly acknowledged by the media is the fact of his music being so unique and special. One day hell be recognized as he and his music deserves.

Nothing beats being there.... but...

I was so excited to find this album. I don't know if it has all the same songs that Yanni played when he was in Calgary awhile back, but I enjoyed being there and getting to hear his fabulous talent and the international feel to his concert. I don't care what people say about him, or his music. I think he has pure passion for music and that's what counts. You can see his absolute joy when he plays with a live orchestra of very talented musicians. I have many of his other ablums, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one, too! I will crank it up, and feel like I'm back at the concert.

Forget it's Yanni and you might actually like it

I admit Yanni's studio albums never did much for me, and of course he's right up there with Enya as the stereotypical punching bag for New Age music purists. But i have to say, I like this live album. It's got less of a stream-of-consciousness feel of his other stuff and more direct, symphony-driven melodies blended with some creative techno that's more reminiscent of Delerium. Some of the vocals here blend nicely, and some are over-the-top, but for the most part, I think its worth a download.

Unique in our time. A truly gifted composer.

Yanni is unique these days--he actually composes really complex, thoughtful music--much like classical composers of yore. (Unlike some others (whom I consider pseudo new-age artists that old ladies swoon over), Yanni doesn't create sanitized covers of pop tunes--he doesn't create "elevator music.") And, his live show is really something else, really magical--the artists he has with him on the road are unique and extremely talented, also. He's a two-time Grammy nominee for new age music, and "Live at the Acropolis" is the second best selling concert video so far (he can't be all bad, can he?)--so, I don't understand the hate. (What do his detractors want?) Perhaps a valid point is raised, nevertheless: A more proper genre for his music may be "World" rather than "New Age."

Creative, energetic

jagumu

Creative, energetic, interesting music from an artist who knows how to make good music. Being "Live!" gives this particular album added excitement. Nice mix of different musical genre sounds. There is a reason why Yanni remains so popular, just give this album a listen and you'll understand why!

You're right pal,

Yup, Yanni's no new age artist. He says so quite emphatically in his autobiography. In fact, he never understood why he was classified under that label. His music is quite different, and expresses much more raw emotion than new agers. Thank goodness formal musical training didn't get to cramp his style.

They Say All Media Guide

Recorded and filmed for DVD live at the Mandalay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas during Yanni’s 2005 world tour, this 65-minute set delivers what you’d expect from a live Yanni album: an eclectic, cinematic fusion of world, new age, and mainstream contemporary pop styles. The 13 songs are, with one exception, drawn from releases dating back to the 1980s (“Keys to the Imagination” having been the title track of his 1986 album) all the way up to the most recent studio effort predating this recording, 2003′s Ethnicity (from which three songs are presented). Indeed, a few of these same songs have shown up on previous Yanni concert albums. (The one piece that hadn’t shown up on prior Yanni releases, “The Storm,” is actually based Antonio Vivaldi’s 18th century violin concerto “Summer.”) It’s well recorded — on “125 channels of digital audio,” according to the back cover — with a two-dozen-strong cast of supporting musicians in the band and orchestra, plus a couple of vocalists adding the occasional atmospheric singing. The slick drama of both the material and the execution, in fact — perhaps because of many listeners’ associations of Yanni music with the Olympics — makes you feel as though many of the pieces are introductory fanfares to some spectacular event. For Yanni fans, however, this sort of concert is the spectacular event. – Richie Unterberger
