My all time favorite band of my then boyfriend and myself in high school in the early 70s is still so relevant that I am now passing the joy of Carlos Santana's music on to our 12 year old grandson. Yes me and my high school boyfriend have been married for 36 years!! But how cool to be able to pass that joy on to another generation! The man is incredible and the kid LOVES his sound!
Most of these recordings are early Santana 1969 studio mixes, before Carlos Santana totally dominated the band's sound. Two exceptions are not from 1969: a worthy 1968 live version of Evil Ways, and an out of place oddity El Corazon Manda DJ Rad remix bonus track. Some of the tunes in this release are early versions of classic Santana Latin infused tunes - Soul Sacrifice, Jingo, Persuasion, etc. I liked Acapulco Sunrise also. Some of these songs do not have the the classic Santana sound, but are interesting nonetheless - I enjoyed the traditional blues tune Travellin Blues. However, With a Little Help From My Friends could use some help from Joe Cocker. Not the best place to start your Santana collection, but worth selectively downloading if you want to fill out your Santana library or hear the band early in their career.
Classic Sanata - wicked guitar and wild drums. This dual-album carries captures some of the same elements that made Santana popular in the Woodstock days. I recommend it for Sanata fans.
