needed some Imodium AD thanks to a subpar Mexican meal. So as I browsed the aisles of the local Super Walmart wondering what I was there for in the first place, the track Miura started playing in my head. I cleared a shelf of Hot Pockets in a freezer case and got in. This way I could cool off as the hot track Miura played to completion in the very head I mentioned earlier.
Simply brilliant dance music drawing on diverse influences - like orchestral disco and 80s funk - to create an enduring and timeless album for discriminating listeners.
As a music fan there are albums you come across that significantly change the way you perceive music, and yourself in the process. For me, this happened when I heard a dark, hypnotic, extremely minimal and impossible to get out of my head song on public radio. After hearing it a few times, someone finally announced what it was. The song was called "Miura" and the band was called Metro Area. I bought the cd at a place called "Tower Records" and I made the switch from "electronic" dance music fan to "dance" music fan. While I had always liked Chic, and had a sense of this type of music, somehow hearing this album just opened up a new world for me. I had a new appreciation for disco, funk, and eighties R&B. Previously I had always thought that stuff was cheezy, but in Metro Area, it's all lovingly synthesized in such a way that gives you a fresh perspective on the music that influenced it. More and more I want to live in the funky, lushly beautiful, and quirky sci-fi world of Metro Area.
Everyone who enjoys Disco, House, Funk, should get this album. It's one of the most elegant exemple of the category. A real masterpiece ! I've been waiting a suite from this great duo for such a long time !
If you don't find yourself nodding your head or tapping your foot after 5 minutes of this tremendous album, you're probably suffering from one of the following conditions: 1)You're deaf 2)You're dead 3)You're devoid of a soul 4) All of the above.
Sometimes, wading through the huge amount of average & downright mindnumbing garbage that falls into this catagory feels like the digital version of panning for gold....Every once in a while, a fat little nugget like this appears, and takes all the pain away - I guess that's why I'm still diggin' after all these years. If you dig it deep, and really listen to your music, then download all, and enjoy!!

Winners like this album. Winners like Metro Area a lot. Winners know that music like this might well sound good turned down while you chew the fat with friends, but they also know for certain that, turned up loud and played at the correct point in the night, a heady wave of dancefloor intoxication is the only result. I speak as someone who's been playing Metro Area to packed dancefloors for years a-plenty. So there. Right, I'm off to plan my next dinner party menu...
Man, I don't know how I missed these guys. I already had Kelley Polar's Love Songs in The Hanging Gardens and Morgan Geist's Unclassics, both of which are insanely good. And I fucking love all the new disco stuff that's been popping up, like Luke Vibert's Kerrier District work. So how did I not know about Metro Area? I have no idea, but they're fan-freaking-tastic.
