One of the best albums I own

Bill Mallonee is incredibly talented and prolific, and this is alt-folk-americana at its finest. Audible Sigh remains one of most cohesive albums, with many standouts incl. Resplendent and Nothing Like a Train. If you ever have a chance to see him perform live (he's solo now) don't miss it.

mighty good

Excellent albumn. All of it. I usually cherry pick stuff I don't know a lot about but I took the chance on this one.Kinda reminds me of Blue Rodeo if they were from Georgia. Some great songs here.

This is, without a doubt, the best album by the tragically under-appreciated Vigilantes of Love. Bill Mallonee's confessionally-honest songwriting matches perfectly with the alt-country sounds of the band. Tracks like "Black Cloud O'er Me" and "Could be a Lot Worse" easily evoke comparisons to Son Volt, "Extreme North of the Compass" and "She Walks on Roses" are straight-up Southern Rock at its finest. "Resplendent" may be the most beautiful song Mallonee has written, and Emmylou Harris' vocals fit the story of a depression-era farmer's tragic life perfectly. VOL has had a long and storied career, with many good albums, but you won't regret downloading this one for a moment.

VoL's best

"Audible Sigh" continues to stand as the high point of the fairly prolific discography of the Vigilantes of Love. The set of songs is solid from start to finish and singer/songwriter Bill Mallonee is in his best form with a fine version of the band. This disc has always deserved more recognition--so do your part and download it.

Excellent

Not a bad song on the CD. Actually, they're all very good to great. If you're looking for a few to start, try "Nothing Like a Train", Solar System", and "Resplendent." The whole album stands up against any of the other top alt-country albums out there. I bought this when it came out and still listen to it regulary.

Absolutely one of my all time favorite albums. The song writing is amazing and the music is sure to please anyone who listens to folk rock or singer songwriter stuff. There is not one bad tune on this album. Don't pass up the chance to listen to this. You will not regret using 12 of your downloads. VOL's other albums are good to, but this one stands above the rest.

The rootsy, Athens-based Vigilantes of Love return with Audible Sigh, a personal, passionate collection of poetry and music. Emmylou Harris joins the group on “Resplendent,” an electric, fingerpicked ballad; Harris also co-produced the album with Buddy Miller. Other songs on Audible Sigh include the cowpunk of “Extreme North of the Compass” and the jangly “Starry Eyed.” Emotionally real and musically diverse, Audible Sigh presents a new, welcome look at the Vigilantes of Love. – Heather Phares
