I just want to have a copy

EMUSIC-0279A8E6

How can I save this search for later purchase? You know like we do in Amazon.com? Or else I might not be able to pull this from the tonnes of music out there. I mean, when I heard this artist's song, "So much more" over radio while driving to work yesterday, I loved it. I have managed somehow to retain his track title and name in my head for a whole day and night. If I cannot keep it some where, I might lose it for good.- soon.

Sounds just right to me!

I disagree with the "cooking expert" from Maine. Brett Dennen does not need to "cook a bit longer". He sounds just fabulous to me. Great music Brett!

Definitely Different

His voice makes you cock your head and think, "hmm, do I like this or not?" Listen long enough and I think you will...

kid needs to cook a bit longer

i understand Dennen's folk-pop catchiness--he's undeniably a talent. but there's a sophomoric quality to his songwriting that's quite grating. his best work is definitely ahead of him, but it's his pasty, vanilla, inoffensiveness that's made him the "supermarket-muzac" maestro of the day. the kid needs to cook a bit longer.

One of My Favorites

I have to admit I'm a lyrics person. I like songs that say something. Brett Dennen definitely has something to say, and he does it with panache. "Ain't No Reason" makes you stop and think about how our lives impact the world. "The One Who Loves You the Most" is a love song with a difference, calling for the realization that one must love themselves before they can truly give and recieve love. All in all a great album with some amazing songs.

A different, impressive sound

keribug02

One of my favorite albums and artists in a long time. He has a different voice that may not appeal to everyone but it defintely grows on you. His lyrics are intelligently written and make you contemplate life- not just your own but the world around you. "There is so much more" is poetic healing for anyone going through a tough time. "Because you are a woman" is interesting for a female to hear a man's perspective on relationships. "The one who love you the most" is perfect for a new romance that already feels right. "She mine" is romatic too. Brett does a great job of having a mix of moods on here, and made me get into him a whole lot more. Other album "hope for the hopeless" is worth checking out too. I think he'll be around awhile!

Strongly recommend you listen

This guy is the real deal. This is a very good - not great, not his masterwork - but very good set of song and an overall fine album. Just as his second recording in 2008 is also outstanding. His best record is still to come, I believe. But this guy is one to watch, music worth your time, an artist to keep your eye on. A great find.

BEST DAMM YOUNG SINGER

hotThomas

Sometimes I just look around the old store to listen and find old acts, my ages, '50', and what do I find, a young singer who has the sound of a latter day Dylan. Dennen has poats words for these ear that hear turth coming from the mouth of next generation. We should all stop and listen. Download Mr. Brett. God he's great!

nice - sounds like S. Hayes

toddster3

This is very much like Sean Hayes... I wonder why this connection hasn't been made in these reviews and write-ups. Check out: "Here we are" on Alabama Chicken (an incredible album). It's great to hear others in the same style and genre... there's a real organic feel to this.

They Say All Music Guide

Occasionally, one comes across a male vocalist who has a very female style of singing and actually sounds like he could be a woman — and that can be an artistic plus. It has certainly worked well for Jimmy Scott, one of the finest male jazz vocalists of all time. And having a female-sounding voice is also a positive for singer/songwriter Brett Dennen, whose So Much More demonstrates that he shares Scott’s strong appreciation of Billie Holiday. But unlike Scott, Dennen is not a jazz singer; his turf is folk-rock, and Tracy Chapman is as strong an influence — or an even stronger influence — than Lady Day. The Holiday influence asserts itself in his vocal phrasing but not stylistically or genre-wise; Chapman, however, has influenced Dennen’s songwriting in addition to influencing his soulful phrasing. The feminine quality that Dennen brings to his introspective, sometimes melancholy performances doesn’t mean that he is devoid of male influences; discerning listeners will also hear traces of Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews in his material (Dennen clearly shares Matthews’ appreciation of African pop). And none of these influences — either female or male — are people Dennen goes out of his way to emulate; it’s clear that Dennen is his own person whether he is reflecting on romantic matters or sociopolitical concerns. Gratefully, Dennen avoids being preachy on his more sociopolitical lyrics; his approach is understated and subtle, and he doesn’t come across as someone who is getting on a soapbox and beating listeners over the head with his beliefs. So Much More isn’t quite as consistent as it could have been — some of the tracks are excellent, others not as memorable — but overall, this 2006 release shows Dennen to be an intriguing and expressive part of folk-rock. – Alex Henderson
