Some of the most innovative names in modern electronic music reinterpret the music of Slowdive, replacing the band's iridescent guitar washes with droning keyboards, otherworldly clicks and ambient gurgles. The songs are immediately recognizable, but instead of being warm and enveloping, many are now sterile and unsettling. ISAN graces "Waves" with robotic vocal harmonies and actual ocean samples; Múm treats "Machine Gun" with random blips and jarring scrapes and Lali Puna fill "40 Days" with haunting whispers and hazy dance beats. The second disc features new (but equally inspired) compositions by most of the same artists.
