Anti-Choc’s Ngonda has here perhaps the sweetest and most mellow Zairian recording since Nico. Rather than a drum attack with guitars circling overhead, this is a full mixture with all the instruments bubbling gently together — at times almost indistinguishably. There are some stiff moments, but overall this is a perfect antidote to Soukous Stars and their brash ilk. – Carl Hoyt
