Soooooo Goooood

haycockfan

By far my favorite album of recent years and one of the best ones ever. I bought the CD after seeing Scott Haycock perform at Pizzapalooza last fall and it hasn't left my CD changer since. His singing reminds me of so many of my favorite singers -- Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Adam Reichmann of Nadine, Jackson Browne, Alan Jackson -- that he's become my new very favorite singer.

It's great, but . . .

Why no "Danny Boy"? It's the highlight of all their live shows. Scott really shows what he's made of on that one. Think Mario Lanza and James Taylor giving each other electric shock treatments to impress Rita Hayworth. No, I don't know what that means either, but it's amazing. Five stars for what's here, though. By the way, since emusic doesn't include artist credits, people might want to know that the lead singer on all but the last song is Scott Hickock. Morton Johnson does the last one. They write all their own songs, except I think "Planet Hollywood" is a Neil McCoy cover.

Best thing on eMusic?

I wholeheartedly second Mr. Stereocourier's rave. There's stuff here to love even for listeners who aren't that turned on by Bruce, etc. I'm more into Jackson Browne, Cat Stevens, George Strait, Hanson and classic show-tunes, but this is my favorite recent album. If you love ANY popular music, chances are The Accomplices will quickly become one YOUR favorites.

Vast, epic even!

Full disclosure: I produced this album. I sang some bass notes on two tracks. I own their asses, I mean their record label. But man does this sound good. If you like Gram Parsons, Bruce Springsteen, the Byrds or Wilco, you might have just found your new favorite album.
