Top Shelf Post-Punk Revival

malomono

Seriously, over this admittedly small set of EPs and singles Voxtrot have proved themselves more creative, more listenable, and more consistent than heavyweights like Interpol and Spoon. On the other hand, they haven't cranked out more than one album's worth of material, so it'd be difficult to push my argument very far, but for now I'll stand by it. That said, there's one thing I'm certain of: I want more! Now, please.

These guys are awsome. "Soft and Warm" is so great that I can't stop listening to it. I find myself singing it in the elevator at work even if there are people on with me. Great stuff!!

The Best Band You've Never Heard Of.

Get this now. I agree with everything the above reviewer said except one point: Soft and Warm is the one song to download if you're looking for a sample. It's an unbelievable track. These guys are amazing and their full length (coming in the spring) is sure to be outstanding.

Austin's newest finest

rabbitrunnin

Intriguing on first listen, toe-tapping on the second, these songs will become part of your life by the fifth listen. These are intricately layered, ferociously played songs, with melodies that hang around your head for days. Of the three Voxtrot EPs, this is probably the most accessible for those who don't know the group. Think early-model New Pornographers -- when, dammit, sometimes they just wanted to dance a bit. Like the NP's "Letter from an Occupant," Voxtrot's "Rise Up in the Dirt" packs more hooks than you think the song can handle. If you download just one track, make it that one -- then come back for the rest. Get on this bandwagon early.

They Say All Media Guide

On Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives, Austin, TX’s indie pop hopefuls Voxtrot follow up their promising debut EP with a tougher, more dramatic sound that pushes them further away from their original influences. There are louder guitars on the EP, more impassioned vocals, and more shifts in dynamics and tone. The title track sets the stage right away with reverbed guitars reeling wildly around Ramesh Srivastava’s forceful vocals; “Fast Asleep” follows with spiky guitars, blaring horns, and a rock-hard chorus. Indeed, it seems that the band has shifted allegiances from U.K. indie pop to D.C. punk-pop, specifically Ted Leo. As on the band’s first EP, the influences are jumping-off points rather than blueprints to follow, and Voxtrot play with enough passion and energy to make it their own. The EP will only be a disappointment to fans who wanted another indie pop confection; those who can follow along with the band’s shift will be pleased by the sprightly sound and first-rate indie rock songcraft. Still a band to pin hopes on, Voxtrot have a chance to develop into a truly interesting group. This EP is a solid step in that direction. – Tim Sendra
