Various Artists, Robopop: The Return
2006 | Label: Planet Clique / Finetunes

Electro-pop has been left for dead more than once, but with the recent success of Goldfrapp in the United States, it seems like the time is ripe (again) for a resurgence. Robopop: The Return leads the charge with a varied collection of chancers (and Tiga) looking for that big break into the mainstream. Best bets? Try Matinee's “Tokyo Girls,” which recalls the italo classic Crusin'Gang's “Chinatown,” Formatic's “State of Play,” if you're looking for the next Kylie, or maybe even Ping Pong Bitches'”Rock Ya Body,” which piles on the guitars. But be sure to test out a few: this collection's strength is in its showcasing of the numerous ways in which “Robopop” can be interpreted. Even if you don't think you're a fan, there's probably something here that'll strike your fancy.

Dragonette is slowed down

TheRuss

I downloaded "I Get Around" and something seemed off, so I played it in sync with the copy on YouTube, and the copy on this album is just slowed down enough to irritate me. Your mileage may vary.

More Super Jupiter, please.

A shame to discover on emusic that you like a song by an artist, only to find that there are no more to be had from emusic. (In the meantime, I've downloaded everything else available by Volunteer and am enjoying that.) Downloaded this whole collection when it was a freebie, and in retrospect would have downloaded all but (Far From) Home and Paris had it not been free.

I feel it

If you only get one track off this album, make sure it's 'I feel it' by Lorraine. Probably one of the best tunes I've heard on eMusic.

Download the first half :-)

For some weird reason I liked tracks 1-8 way more than 9-14. Track 15 (CCTV), however, is also kick-ass. Lovely album, very energetic. I think "State of Play" (track 5) is actually the MHC remix. You can check out other remixes of it on Formatic's EP which is also well worth checking out.

Cool

Nice! A really fun collection of noisy, gutsy pop music. Particular goodies: Dragonette, Robots in Disguise and Ping Pong Bitches.

Great album, but ....

pixiesboy

There's 2 tracks missing compared to the CD version. Not a major issue, but worth bearing in mind. There's some great stuff to discover on this album, and it's got the only Dragonette track currently available on eMusic, so do check it out in one version or another!

Zero is nearly right here - most of this is blinding - like sarah records with synths ... listen first and download more than half. I'm currently loving the dragonettes track and have gotten robotic to make me your picture
