better than many

I have four sets of the solo sonatas (Grumiaux, Kremer, Holloway, and Julia Fischer) and recently while searching for the "right" sound of the 1002 for some reason or another none of them satisfied me. After tring out several versions, I settled on Podger's.

Wonderful tuning

blues-boer

If you know the Bach Sonatas and Partitas, the first thing that strikes you is the tuning - Podger's violin is tuned far lower (probably A=435Hz), which makes for a wonderfully warm sound. She also often takes more measured tempi than is common, without ever becoming sluggish. Highly recommended.

Amazing

I got this album a few years ago and it is amazing. It is almost meditative, like being in another world. Podger's playing of these Bach violin solos on a baroque era instrument is a transporting experience.
