Pretty good!
I'm not too familiar with the Shins, but what I've heard, I like, and this bluegrass version works surprisingly well.

If you're a Shins fan I don't know how you could not love this! To me it's basically the best thing ever. The vocals are kinda Gratefull Dead-esqe so that sucks. But I totaly get a kick hearing my favorite songs to that crazy banjo music. It's the best of both worlds really, if you want some skilled bluegrass musicans coupled with amazing lyrics. I just love the novelty of it. Five stars!
This album is a wonderful example of how well-written music can fit in any genre. I am a huge fan of the Shins and the country girl in me will always love bluegrass. This is the perfect melding of two worlds, and will hopefully give indie snots a new perspective on the beauty and complexity of bluegrass.
pay no attention to the poor reviews this album has received by all the fake hipster cool kids. this album jams.
I really had my doubts when I heard about this album, but actually it's really great if you're Shins fan. Even in a completely different genre of music, their great song writing ability shines through! A must have for true fans.
I had my doubts, but finding this makes up for the relative disappointment of Wincing the Night Away. Not sure I'll listen to these as often as the original tracks, but I'm sure I'll smile when they pop up in my bluegrass playlist. btw, the band is Iron Horse.
This really isn't so bad. It's nice to hear the Shins' songs detached from their particular sound. The fact that they can still stand up says something about the group's songwriting ability. I'm sure plenty of people will remain cold upon hearing this album. It's really not all that spectacular, but the novelty alone is pretty neat. I like it.
I consider myself well versed when it comes to music. I appreciate all genres of music, and do enjoy blue grass when done correctly. The Shins Bluegrass Tribute was not done correctly. It made me sick to hear the vocal stylings of James Mercer slaughtered; the bright entrancing melodies have turned into slow tempo low range garbage. The most dissapointing to me was those to come, my favorite original shins track . . . you know what, I can't talk about it anymore. Write your own music. Don't buy the album.
I guess it's not that far fetched... the music does sort of lend itself to bluegrass...hell, Mercer plays banjo on the Shin's latest. I give it 3 stars only because a bluegrass verison of Caring is Creepy is pretty damn funny.
Interesting... that's all I can say.
