Multi-talented...

Bob Mould teams up with Richard Morel to create the band Blowoff. It's a very interesting album that combines Bob Mould's style of music with Morel's Electronica. There is a blend of both styles on the album to create a mix of music that is a great listening experience. I found that I liked both styles and some of the songs that peaked my interest were Here And Now, Life With A View, Fallout, Get Inside With Me, and The Ballad of Mark Dirt. The album sounds a lot like Bob Mould's solo effort District Line where Mould experiments a lot with the Electronica sound. So far this is the only album that they have produced together but it looks like they are still on the road performing. This CD was interesting enough to make me want more and my hopes are that they do some performances around the Cincinnati area soon.

Bold and Beautiful

Although Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar) is the bigger name in indie, Richard Morel has produced and created club mixes for a dizzying variety of artists, including New Order, Depeche Mode, Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono, Deep Dish... He also played a major role in creating Bob Mould's clubbish "Body of Song." (You can find his magnificent solo recordings at emusic under the name Morel, which is what he normally works under. Search for Morel in the title to find many of his mixes.) Here they are performing as true partners, such a natural-sounding partnership that it's hard to imagine these guys aren't recording together all the time and touring like demons to great acclaim. This is deep, soulful stuff that draws on all of the above. This is truly wonderful stuff. If you're reading this, you need to download the record.

Another solid Bob Mould album...

If you like Bob Mould and "Body of Song", getting this is a no-brainer. The strong guitars, good lyrics, and a dense sound are all there, but this is a little more "clubby" (not a bad thing, but different). I should head down to DC and catch a show.
