germany at its best

back then when the notwist appeared with this album on a small label, it was already impressive regarding its energy and melancholic atmosphere at the same time. From there, The Notwist developed consequently to where they are today, while creating the path for a whole universe of new bands and projects supported by the labels hausmusik, pajola and later morr music. Since then i am always chasing new outputs from that growing group of bands/projects/collaborations, now spreading from bavaria to berlin and even international. Go ahead and listen how it all started, and then trace it all until today... and enjoy

This is the first Notwist album, very much in the throes of metal-tinged post-punk and sounds wonderfully "early 90s". Like many of today's avant-indie bands, the Notwist had some double bass in their past, for better or worse. It is honestly hard to imagine how this is the same band that pushed a glitch/jazz/indie fusion (on shrink) or had key players in the whole Morr Music universe. They seemed to add an element with every record, then explore it on the next. That said, this is still a darn fine album, if much, much louder than their work after "12". Track down "neon golden" or "shrink" to start with (or any of their many side projects: Lali Puna, Console, MS John Soda, Tied & tickled trio).
