Brightly melancholy

fallingman

This album is like a flash flood rolling down on you through a red clay ditch. It's Southern and backwoods and rain and joy. A Perfect Day to Chase Tornados will make you hope for dark clouds to appear in the sky.

my favorite album in the whole world. there are songs I like more than the songs on here, and theres bands I like more than Jim White, but as a whole, this is my favorite album. Chilling, gentle, perfect. I'm no fan of the alt coutry genre, but I just love this.

Creepy goodness

A psychedelic folk nightmare of life down south. Literate and vivid lyrics detailing strange and unsettling lives. Scary, interesting, beautiful, captivating, wonderful.

Watch the powerful documentary titled as Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus narrated by Jim White. He drives through these places and meets people who probably inspired this haunted record. I recommed Still Water, Sleepy Town and Perfect Day To Chase Tornados.

Jim White’s debut album is a cinematic collection of Appalachia-inspired country-folk rendered with a gothic sensibility and junkyard atmospherics (the inclusion of Tom Waits collaborator Ralph Carney on several tracks lends the record a distinctly Waits-ish veneer). Drawing on his bizarre life experiences and troubled Pentecostal upbringing, White’s narratives are surreal and crazed, shot through with disturbing spiritual imagery and backwoods dementia; a strangely beautiful record, Wrong-Eyed Jesus! is a fine introduction to a uniquely twisted talent. – Jason Ankeny
