Creative and fun. The first 15 seconds of "blackomb" are pure genius. There is another shining island of perfection at 2 mins into "A51". In between these shining moments are surprisingly well textured and fun grooves. I listen to this when programming and excercising... it gets a big thumbs-up from me.
Tracks 1 and 6 are well worth downloading, i find the rest a little bit 'glam' for my tastes but 1 and 6 have a nice little indie vibe to them that works really well.
Put simply, anyone hoping for the fun and variety of "Radio JXL: A Broadcast From the Computer Hell Cabin" will be disappointed. This is a very competent and pleasant listen that too often sounds like Fat Boy Slim-light. Maybe Mr XL needs a singer to pull his ideas into focus or maybe the cohesion and density of his last album was more the product of his collaborators. Either way, this isn't a keeper.
