Enjoyable, but inconsistent, Gypsy romp
I have long adored this band for its cheek and originality, and after seven years, I was surprised to see another release. The great: The "gypsy hardcore" this band plays is infectious, containing fantastic beats, samples and melodies. You can't not dance to their better tracks, and you'll be hard pressed not to be amused and charmed by their lesser efforts. Lines like "No candy, no candy/We're going out with Mary Kate and Ashley" are hilarious in context, and delivered with all the energy of a p*****-off schoolgirl. The bad: Reworkings of old Szeki Kurva songs from the '90s, while better produced, lack the wit, lyrics and delivery the originals (Don'tcha Know, Bond Averts, Come Get Some). Further, the latest round of backup singers have some bright moments, but they lack the presence (and vocal abilities) of their counterparts from the early 'OOs release.(Tunelessness can be endearing, but after 20 tracks, it's a bit like Biz Markie on helium.) Download only tracks 1-12 and 20, h
