It's hard enough to track down John Dwyer's various musical activities let alone digest them. Once you think you've got him pegged as a noise rocker (Pink and Brown), punk rocker (Coachwhips) or thrasher (Yikes), he goes out and crafts downtrodden doo-wop with the Ohsees. Of course, the Ohsees weren't always this way. Thee Oh Sees Sucks Blood sees Dwyer further yielding control to a number of band members that have infiltrated what was once a solo project.

Recorded “green” with Sub Pop artist Kelly Stoltz, the quintet slogs through a half-hour of gently, hypnotic rock that rarely aims for anything but the head. (Call it Beach House for punks.) But considering Dwyer's resume, it's hard to begrudge him a low-key affair. And, really, who can argue with the results? “Sucks Blood” sounds like a Galaxie 500 demo on ludes, “The Gouger” takes that template and adds some twang to the mix and “You Make Me Sick, Oh Yeah” revels in its own inertia. Not bad for a noise/punk/thrasher, eh?
