Day For Night, Day For Night
2007 | Label: Day For Night / IODA

The Day for Night EP is a stunning debut; it's as though Day for Night emerged from the womb fully formed, taking up where a host of gloomy 4AD bands left off. Guitarist Keith Ehrlich makes most of the noise here, somehow providing guitar lines that are low enough that they might serve as bass and lead, while Bill Kovalcik drums his rhythmic assent. The real star, though, is lead singer Kali Holloway. Her voice easily rises above Ehrlich and Kovalcik's racket to transform these aural waking dreams into otherworldly nightmares. Dream pop? Not a chance. This is, as eMusic's Yancey Strickler calls it, “dream-rock.”

Catchy and not overrated!

EbilCatzy

A great album with catchy songs and strong female vocals. I've been listening to it for quite a while now, and I still love it.Definitely not overrated! I want to hear more.

A Great EP for 1996

StuBarnes

This band sounds straight out of the late 90's. In a good way, kind of. Each song only has two parts (but two good parts). Very little dynamics. Super tight drum sound with a little faux reverb and "is that a girl?" vocals. If you really enjoy this album, you must find the Swedish band Salt (not on emusic). They had two amazing albums that Day For Night was highly enfluenced I presume.

My only complaint is that there are only 3 songs! I hope this band makes it down to Asheville, NC. T
