This is honestly one of the best albums I have ever heard - and it's a perfect example of why I love eMusic. First I downloaded "The National Side". Great song. Then "Drink the Night Away". Then "Ixcatan". All three of them are in my 100 favorite songs ever. Don't sleep on these guys. They could become huge - if they ever bother to release the next CD :)
Deep dark vocal reminding me of Springsteen Nebraska the music is well put together that allows a record that can be listen over and over
its living proof of what you can do with songwritting that includes respect for the craft and wander what music can make you feel. Wanderful lp indeed.
Saw them interviewed on a morning show, and they said they were big on Wilco, Ryan Adams, Waterboys. You'll hear all of them on this album. Would like to give it a 4.25; very good, not quite great, but the potential is there for greatness. Love "The Gulf of Mexico," a light and beautiful "heavy" song.
I am proud to say these guys are from my home town of Minneapolis (well the lead singer is actually from Ireland, but he lives here now). Great folk/americana music. RIYL Wilco, Ryan Adams, Calexico. I didn't really like his earlier album, but this one is great. A lot of feeling. "Drink the night away" is esp good.
