I loved David Soul's first album - and not for "Don't Give Up on Us". The other tracks are much better. This one has it's moments also. As he did on the first, I find the "story songs" like "Nobody but a Fool and a Preacher" are where David really shines. He is, after all, an actor first. But,I believe more singers should be actors too. Wonder where David Soul is now?
David Soul's second album came hot on the heels of his US/UK no. 1 hit "Don't give up on us". This album gave him two more hits; "Silver Lady" and the no.2 "Going in with my eyes open". The title refers mostly to the mood and intimacy David creates with his voice - he sings in such a way that you believe he's in the room beside you singing these songs just for you. David is a great actor as well (he has lots of films and TV roles to his credit) and the song "Nobody but a fool" is possibly the best recording he ever did. Here the story, the music, the voice and the arrangement all float seemlessly together to create what might just be the finest 4 minutes of music to ever be put on record!
