I saw Simple Kid open for Spiritualized last night and was mighty impressed. I knew he was up to something when he introduced his "band" and then turned on a monitor showing his pre-recorded tracks. Then he did a duet with Kermit the Frog. Nice. I'm glad to see that his new disc is on eMusic. What about the first one? one of the few artists that actually has a socially relevant message in his music. i have seen him live and he is pretty unbelievable to see as well. you should also check out the first album (1) it might be better; they are both good.
He's often compared to Beck but this stuff is far more immediate and Simple Kid doesn't try too hard to be cutting edge. "Serotonin" is a lost classic in waiting. The first album is cracking too.
Fun stuff... like the banjo. Some tunes are not quite upbeat enough.
