One hit wonder

EMUSIC-00E16227

The orchestral version of the Simpsons theme is fine, but the rest of the album is repetitive, timid, and dull. The album cover's cute and the song titles are clever, but the music is as satisfying as a stale donut.

You Gotta Love the Song Titles...

First impression: the love child of Darius Milhaud and Frank Zappa.

If You Like Hans ...

If you like Hans Zimmer's other soundtracks you will like this too. And apparently the "Homer, Bart and a Bike" is an iTunes exclusive because it's not on the physical CD either. And of course it's an album only track on iTunes :(

Not quite what i expected...

Just a heads up to anyone who wants to download this album thinking its going to be a movie version of "Songs in the Key of Springfield" or "Simpsonic". You will not find any vocal snippets from Homer & the gang on this album. This is strictly an instrumental album (and a pretty good one) from the excellent Hans Zimmer. Still if I knew that this was a mostly instrumental affair, I would have probably nabbed "Spider Pig" and moved on instead of downloading the entire album.

They Say All Music Guide

One thing is clear from the soundtrack to The Simpsons Movie — the long-awaited silver screen debut of Matt Groening’s timeless cartoon family is not a musical. It may not be a musical, but it is surely the soundtrack to a big-screen spectacular, meaning that the zany, zesty work of Alf Clausen has been traded in for the lush, symphonic touch of Hans Zimmer, who manages to retain enough of the spirit of the show but gives it a full-fledged widescreen makeover. In other words, this soundtrack is a traditional score — even “Spider Pig” is sung by a choir, not the characters, and only the ending tongue-in-cheek electro-dance of “Recklessly Impulsive” breaks the symphonic spell — and even with titles as wacky as “Doomsday Is Family Time,” “Thank You Boob Lady,” and “Why Does Everything I Whip Leave Me?,” the soundtrack doesn’t sound all that humorous. It merely sounds like the sweeping yet sensitive mood music to a movie. And on those terms, The Simpsons Movie is a very good soundtrack — perhaps not as clever as Clausen, but it’s still light on its feet while having enough pomp and circumstance to justify being shown on such a larger screen. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
