The order of artists permutes

qmaner

Notice that the order of artists under the tracks is opposite that of the duo listed at top as the artists. It is a good idea to make sure these recordings are something you don't already have on your mp3 player under one or the other orderings.

Another minimalist exercise off the beaten path.

Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie actually counterpoint themselves very well on these two outings. I bought these albums on regular CD after sampling them. However, be advised they are mastered at a very, very, low level. Which was both artist's intent, I guess. This album uses sound to describe the adjectives of emotion and the stimuli attached to life's deeper moments. If you've listened to other albums by Budd, then this may be your cup of tea.

robin guthrie was in the cocteau twins a pioneering "alternative rock" band from the 80's/90's. not all alternative music has to be loud.

If there is one thing I've learned...

...about emusic is to ignore the genre titles they slap on alot of the albums on here. Basically it helps to know what you are looking for when you visit emusic. I pity the person who comes to emusic, searches by genre and gets frusterated by the # of incorrect genre labels. Never has previewing an album been so important. :) "robin guthrie was in the cocteau twins a pioneering "alternative rock" band from the 80's/90's. not all alternative music has to be loud." I was referring to the "punk" label for this album. *shrug* It doesn't matter. Labels are lame anyway.

Huh?

I'm 33 years old. I guess I'm just old, but they call this "Alternative/Punk"?

They Say All Music Guide

Recorded during the same time and issued on the same day as After the Night Falls, Before the Day Breaks is not radically different from its sister release. In fact, it might take a few plays of both discs to make some kind of distinction. They are equally meditative and engaging, based around heavy treatments of Robin Guthrie’s guitar and Harold Budd’s piano. The closer, “Turn on the Moon,” is a relatively bombastic and overloaded piece involving a drum machine, crashing sonics, and even some added acoustic guitar from Guthrie. Otherwise, this follows the same format as After the Night Falls — all eerily comforting and equally suited for passive background listening and complete absorption. Cynics and casual fans will find these albums indistinguishable from one another and possibly the remainder of each artist’s past. More attentive followers will know better. – Andy Kellman
