I did download Elephant Gun to see if it was the same version... and yes it is. If you've already got this song on the Lon Gisland CD, then just skip it. If you don't have it, then you need to download it, because it's still a great song. The other two songs are good, worth downloading, but certainly not their best. And I still don't see the point of adding the clip from "My Family's Role in the World Revolution" to "Le Moribond." It was the same recording just tacked to the end. I don't mind them mixing bits of songs together, but they should blend. I look forward to their new album. T
This is probably Beirut's weakest EP to date. Track 1 is a no-brainer, but I got it off of the Lon Gisland EP so this review is really for the other two tracks which are okay at best. Neither are very original or stimulating. Here's hoping those two are the kinks he had to work out of his system to create something really neat and exciting for his upcoming second LP.
I didn't get the version on this single, but apparently this version is 2 seconds longer than the version on the Lon Gisland CD. I'm guessing that's just a pause or something though. The b-sides are quite good, certainly worth 2 downloads.
Not only is the title track here also found on the Lon Gisland EP (I didn't download to see if it was the same recording), but "Le Moribond" quotes a significant chunk of "My Family's Role in the World Revolution" from that same record. Still, the Beirut sound remains fresh, now incorporating a bit of French cabaret as well.
part of the proceeds of this release will go to restoring the neighborhoods in Beirut that were destroyed during the Israeli airstrikes last year.... JUST KIDDING! like they give a shit. but seriously, they're really milking the b'jesus out of this tune aren't they?
Is this version of Elephant Gun the same as the one on Lon Gisland EP?
beautiful. absolutely beautiful.
Transatlantique is just enchanting.
