Amazing Album!

What an amazing album! Lonely Road is one of my all time favorite song. The message is powerful. We lost a great song writer.

Fantastic songs, marred only by production

jasonpanella

Mark Heard was an amazing songwriter, and Dry Bones Dance is a testament to gifts. The only strike against this album (and I realize it's just a personal gripe) is the '80s 'CCM-ish' production: the bass and tremble are almost completely gone, with only the middle cutting through. That said, the album is still well worth it.

One of Mark's best albums.

I miss Mark Heard. Along with the Choir, and the Call, Mark is one of those artists who speaks directly to me. I miss you Mark. Warren

Downloads Still Not Fixed--What A Shame!

PKfanSteph

As of today, October 30th, 2007, the tracks 5, 7, 10, 12 and 13 are still not fixed. What a shame as this is a great CD. iTunes has the exact same problem, so don't bother going there, either. I'm guessing either the label (Paste Music) doesn't know they need to replace the source material or they don't care.

Great CD, Bad Download

drinkinggreentea

Excellent CD from the great songwriter, but unfortunately tracks #5,7,10,12,and 13 have technical problems: they cut off abruptly near the end and you lose between 1-20 seconds of each song.

one of his best

cypherz

Dry Bones Dance and Satellite Sky are (IMNSHO) the best MH albums. Both are heartily recommended. In DBD and SS Mark was developing a new style that was part Zydeco and part Folk Rock. Awesome Stuff. We miss you Mark!

Mark Heard: Orphan of God

By Mike McGonigal, eMusic Contributor

When one of my editors asked me to write a column on the talented singer, producer and songwriter Mark Heard, I was elated to learn that so much of his discography had recently been added to eMusic's catalogue. Frequently compared to the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, Heard's stature has increased steadily since he passed away from heart complications fifteen years ago. Bruce Cockburn called Heard "America's best songwriter,"… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Coming three years after the interesting (if unsuccessful) iDEoLA experiment, Mark Heard returns with a rich, rootsy album full of intelligent lyrics and well-layered music. Styles range from folk to Appalachian to zydeco. And all of these diverse styles are augmented by the Chapman stick of Fergus Jemison Marsh, more widely known for his work with Bruce Cockburn. The sounds of the more traditional instruments really color this record well — the accordion, the mandolin, the violin, the hammered dulcimer — rich instrumental painting and texture. The album has an energetic opening with “Rise From the Ruins” and the title track, and there’s lots of clever wordplay on “Our Restless Hearts.” The high point on this record is one of Heard’s prettiest songs, “Strong Hand of Love.” The trilogy of this album, Second Hand, and Satellite Sky comprise Heard’s strongest work. – Mark W.B.
