Terrific head-bashing shriek-out.
The 30-second track previews don't really do this album justice because a lot of the songs build from an ominously quiet start to a hard rock crescendo that makes the hair on your neck stand up while you air-drum your steering wheel into submission. Parts of this album remind me of Team Dresch's Captain My Captain, except where TD makes up for middling sound quality and flat vocals with deeply felt middle-finger-in-the-air sincerity, JOJ makes up for their lack of lyrical depth with great production, strong musicianship, and raw sonic power. Of the JOJ albums I found here at Emusic, Clear Hearts Grey Flowers seems like the best one because the lyrics aren't nearly as stupid as on the other albums.
