Wonderful music

PaulTerry1954

Boult conducted the first performance of "These Things Shall Be", so this recording has great historical interest. It's a very moving work, looking forward to a better world, and given just the right interpretation. The other pieces are excellent too, and the recordings are wonderful considering their age. Highly recommended.

Definitive performance of the piano concerto

buberfan

Ireland's piano concerto is a glorious piece - full of romantic yearnings and with a slightly jazz flavour as well. Erik Parkin is the pianist most connected with Ireland - he knew the composer and has championed his works. Parkin also appears on a later Chandos recording, but this is the one to go for with Boult bringing out the essence of this wonderful concerto.
