After or ahead of its time?
An influential soul songwriter and singer in the 60s - Mick Jagger essentially copped his vocal style wholesale from Covay - Covay's down home style was out of fashion by the late 70s when this was recorded. But while the album's sparse, low-fi production didn't win anyone over in '77, it has a timeless feel that makes it stand up better today than much of Covay's '70s work.
