The group is great, excellent album. But, the drums are given front and center sound stage. The bass feels like it's kind of tucked in the corner as an after thought. The drummer is amazing. And if you have ever seen them live you know that he could have a back-up career as a comedian if he ever losses an arm. This could be a 5 star album but whoever mixed it prevented that.
Fabulous album. A lot of the songs on here have been part of Happy Apple's live repertoire for some time. It seems, at long last, they've finally gotten around to recording them. Of particular note, is Very Small Rock featuring a simple but tuneful bass line from Eric Fratzke and Density in Dan's Fan City (which I have been waiting for for years!), which really sounds like Radiohead playing jazz.
I was hoping this would show up! On first listen, this is a little gentler than usual, and there's some really beautiful stuff: it's not a blast-fest. Even the fantastic song titles (a H.A. specialty) are toned down a little this time... but wonderful playing and tunes still abound.
