Absolutely essential, frankly. The David Baker-era Rev is a COMPLETELY different beast to the Rev that delivered widescreen psychedelia like Deserters Songs et al but definitely still worth an investigation. John Peel remarked about this record that you couldn't tell what was in their record collections and he's spot on. AND that off-kilter shriek of guitar in Chasing A Bee STILL terrifies me now as much as when I first heard in 1993.
This record is an indie classic. Still far away from their later sound this is the raw material that makes up their later style. Feedback, noisy and rattling psychedelica. Chasing a Bee is in my opinion one of the best songs ever.
With a sound as big as the sky and a lyrical approach as densely packed as any metropolis, Milagres, a Brooklyn five-piece freshly signed to Kill Rock Stars after a major personnel shake-up, doesn't need a compelling origin story for Glowing Mouth, its sophomore album.
