If you are here, trust your instincts. Hooverphonic at their swirling, seductive best.

One of my favorite eMusic downloads to date

halfwinter

I was so excited to see Hooverphonic on eMusic. They are a true success story of stylistic evolution. They've managed to retain the compelling aspects of their '90s trip-hop roots while maturing into new territory. This album is moving, danceable and comforting all at the same time. Awesome. I'm really looking forward to whatever comes next.

Great album!

SeriousPoo

50 Watt is just a monster tune, and the rest of the album is pretty solid as well. Overall, it's up there with Blue Wonder Powder Milk - one of my favorite ambient / trip-hop albums of all time.

wake me up when it's over

The album art is awesome. Creative band name and the album title is appropriate. You'd have to either be tripping on LSD or enjoy watching the sleepy past time of golf to be able to listen to this and stay awake. yaaaawwwwwn.

Sit down & listen to more sweet music from Belgium

TooMuchDew

My ABSOLUTE favorite band, this is a no-brainer to download all 10 tracks. Hooverphonic left Sony/BMG in 2006 & now they're on [PIAS] & eMusic! Difficult to classify (Adult alternative ambient dream Trip-pop?) vocalist Geike Arnaert, songwriter/programmer/bass player Alex Callier & guitarist Raymond Geerts sound a little more stripped down & psychedelic than previous efforts (dig that retro organ!) The first 6 tracks are most accessible; the last 4 get kind of introspective/spacey. Also get "Pink Flamingo Dream" from the single. Preview entire album free on Hooverphonic's official website + videos for singles "Gentle Storm" & "Expedition Impossible". Recommended if a fan of Portishead, Morcheeba, Goldfrapp, Telepopmusik or Massive Attack. For more on eMusic check out: Lamb, Ivy, Bitter:Sweet, Natalie Walker, Lunascape, & Zero 7. (Arrgh! I bought import CD January 28th & Sia's newest early, but got Ingrid Michaelson on eMusic & won't make same mistake on Vampire Weekend)

They Say All Media Guide

Hooverphonic is Belgium’s premiere psychedelic ambient dream pop ensemble. Their sixth studio-produced album retains the trippy qualities that have earned them a faithful following since they emerged from the ethers in 1995, while steering towards a relaxed and slightly more conventional accessibility. Word up is that President of the LSD Golf Club was supposed to be the title of the album released in 2000 as The Magnificent Tree, but that someone at Sony wouldn’t allow it. That kind of blockheaded censorship was already outmoded more than three decades earlier when the Rolling Stones were forced by executives at London and Decca to release their Beggars Banquet album with a crème colored RSVP “invitation” cover instead of the originally intended and now familiar photo of a graffiti-decorated water closet! True to form, Hooverphonic saw to it that certain editions available in Sweden, Spain, Italy, and France contain an eleventh bonus track entitled “The Perfect Dose.” – arwulf arwulf
