Uber Cool

dpete13

Some bands are just uber cool. It isn’t that their music is necessarily better than anyone else’s, but sometimes a certain element seeps through the speakers and hits you like a brick on the back of the head. This is the best way to describe Viva Voce; a brick to the head (um the brick is a good thing, waking you from a stupor…fine maybe not the best way to describe a fantastic band). The duo has shown growth between releases and is evident by the range of music produced over the years. Their first releases dabbled in lazy, ethereal melodies before shifting gears to “foot on the pre-amp while doing a guitar hero pose cock rock” style of music. While some bands fall prey to cheap production gimmicks and are forever pigeon holed into one type of sound, one gets the sense that Viva Voce will someday break through the indie/popular music barrier due to their quest to perfect their song writing skills (a la The Shins). Great band. Great folks.

MCCoolT

This duo produces some of the best and most beautiful indie rock this decade. They are somewhat unique in the music world (maybe less so now with bands like Mates of State) in they are a husband and wife team. This seems to create a depth of music and songwriting that isn't normally present in modern music. Their songs about love have a purity about it that one wants to celebrate and get lost in. Very nice folks as well. Great shoegazer pop... definately download this!!!

This “two-fer” from the Amore Phonics label includes albums two and three from colorful husband-and-wife indie rockers Viva Voce. Both Lovers, Lead the Way! and The Heat Can Melt Your Brain have been out of print for some time, so newbies to the duo’s sugary, Elephant 6-style indie pop will revel in the discovery, while longtime fans can rejoice in the fact that the collection is stocked with copious amounts of demos, remixes, and previously unreleased material. – James Christopher Monger
