1 liner master

TYCOSAMSPO

Hilarious master of the 1-liner speaks his mind. Gentle and funny humor here. LOL

Steven isn't as good as I remember

mhenry1384

I remember thinking Steven Wright was hilarious when I was in High School, so I had high hopes for this album. Unfortunately, it simply wasn't funny. I listened to it a few times, in case I was just in a bad mood the first time, and ended up deleting it.

Still great after all these years

stopbeatingme

I bought I Have a Pony when it came out in 1985, and it's great to see he's still got it in him 22 years later. Either you like this style of comedy, or you don't, and I love it. Hope we can get one more Wright release by 2029.

Fall over funny

Demosthenes

I have been a fan of Steven Wright for over 20 years. As a long time fan of one-liners, I took to his material from the first time I heard that he lived at the end of a one way dead end street, and still doesn't know how he got there, but has a friend who got arrested for counterfeiting pennies.

I Get To Have Some Of Him!!

I'm SO happy that I just watched Steven on Letterman, and now find him here! I was blown away at the very first line...will be added to my "Top Favorite Five Quotes Of All Time!" Thanks!!

Love, Love Loved It

KookyBooBoo

I love not having to wait on the puchline, the joke is the punch line. You wouldn't think that someone mumbling would be so funny, but I laughed my arse off. It's nice to hear a comic who doesn't use the *F* word every 5 seconds. This is something I can listen to with my 16 Year Old. If you like Mitch Hedberg you'll LOVE Steven Wright.

Couldn't Have Asked For More...

Not really jokes, I guess. More like puns worthy of applause. Hilarious applause-wothy puns and twists of language. I've never heard Wright's stuff before, but I am well pleased to have spent my downloads on this album: I recommended it.

Not seeing it

BigFlax

I thought I would go for Steven Wright based on what I knew of his style, and I'd liked some of his older stuff which I'd read although not heard. But this album is almost aggressively unfunny. Wright knows his way around the language but I have no idea what everyone was laughing at.

nope

i dunno, maybe you had to be around for the first album to appreciate the humour but this album is pretty awful. i've laughed more at dane cook standup than i did listening to this. cross, chappelle, hedberg, hicks, all these should be listened to, wright, not so much.

Finally, after 22 years, a new album!

DevilsMischief

Long-awaited follow-up to 1985's "I Have a Pony"! More timeless surreal comedy from Wright as you know him, including 3 musical numbers. Wright never stoppoed his stand-up and acting (for movie and TV such as "Mad About You", even winning an Oscar for a short film). In a 2004 interview, Wright stated that the initial album helped him get into playing theatres so a second album didn't seem necessary. He also realized that more albums meant writing more material (nobody wants to hear a comedian do the album they own at home), which he wasn't sure he could do at the time. Wright is incredibly unique, and his straying away from topical and overly-blue material has also kept his work timeless. I can see myself pulling out his stuff at a party 20 years from now and still see people laughing with it.

They Say All Music Guide

The reason it took deadpan, surreal, and cerebral comedian Steven Wright more than 20 years to release a follow-up to his supreme 1985 album, I Have a Pony, was that he knew that if he wanted to keep performing live he would have to have a third album’s worth of material. After all, if you give his fans a recording, they’ll listen to it repeatedly, day after day, memorizing the set to the point where they could do Wright’s material as well as he could. The audio version of his Comedy Central television special When the Leaves Blow Away, I Still Have a Pony is an album worth the 20-year wait, and no doubt you’ll soon know someone who can repeat it verbatim. It’s filled with great stories — like when Steven gets fired from the pet store for braiding the snakes — and those sharp one-liners that run the spectrum of strangeness from the almost Henny Youngman-esque “I bought an iPod that can either hold 5,000 songs or one phone message from my mother” to the truly weird “She would drink so much she would slur her pauses.” If there’s a way to tell this Pony from its predecessor, it’s that the practically asleep comedian is somehow even more comfortable and displays plenty of trust that his audience is smart. Smart enough to take some stories that aren’t really jokes, but witty and bizarre ramblings that play with words and reality itself. He uses these merely witty moments as left jabs between his right hooks (“My friend has a trophy wife, but I don’t think he won first place”) and breaks up his set by grabbing the acoustic guitar and delivering a couple songs like truly evil “The Kitten Song” and the great “Mumble Song.” “Wind chimes are for stupid people so they’ll know that there’s a breeze.” Great stuff that will keep his cult as they always have been: loyal and laughing. – David Jeffries
