From Time Out New York

bleeep

Is Arcade Lover NYC’s first neodisco supergroup? Produced by Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani and Escort’s Daniel Balis, it sure feels like it, with deep-house go-to singer Lisa Shaw on vocals and a studio band that includes Groove Collective’s Jonathan Maron on bass and Caleb Burhans from the contemporary chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound on strings. “Fantasy Lines” borders on Escort’s disco maximalism, with Chic-like bass-drum-guitar interplay, swooping strings and synths, and punchy horn lines. But a hint of Metro Area–style restraint (and Shaw’s wonderfully deadpan vocals regarding night flights to Venus and whatnot) gives the track a pleasingly push-pull feel. —Bruce Tantum
