Good nordic surprise
When I first heard Sofia Jannok's music I was really looking for something different. I'm from Brazil, a country known for the quality of its music (samba, bossa-nova, latin jazz, tropicalia etc.). But this poor mortal mostly hears alternative rock and jazz. Every now and then though I look for something new. And the music Sofia Jannok sings, greatly influenced by her Sami origins, was surely new to me. But it was surprinsing that even the ones she sings in her native language didn't sound totally strange. They do have also influences of pop, electronic and jazz, but beyond that they look beautifully universal. Her pretty voice can be both soft and powerful. But what matters is that she sings with real feeling, and does so with much elegance. You feel that elegance in songs like "Gáhkkor", "Leikkas" and "Ija Salas". In short, a good, charming nordic surprise! - Angelo de Assis
