My Favorite

panzer21st

I think this may be my favorite TMBG. The other one I review, will be too. I bought this after seeing them in concert. This album is as good as any, if you want to start your collection. Buy it, you'll love it.

Audio dropouts in some tracks

WeslyM

This is a great set, unfortunately I noticed brief audio "blips" or drop outs in several tracks (10, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23). I downloaded these tracks again but heard the same dropouts in the same locations. Not sure if these are flaws in the source recording or what; a disclaimer/notice would not be out of place.

Great Semi-Live Album!!

chefnorthside

This isn't your typical live album. Some of the tracks are new studio stuff (Theme and Dr. Worm) while some are live recordings (Particle man, Ana Ng) and others are kinda like alternate versions (Meet James Ensor, Istanbul) Pure TMBG at their best. The last "Ape" tracks were originally untitled tracks at the end of the album, "escape" is probably the best one, check out "conquest" too. Overall, pure awesomeness from the twin quasars of rock!

Titles Offset

tvhilton

Beginning with track 6 (the second 'Birdhouse'), the titles are off by one song--i.e., the second 'Birdhouse' is actually 'Angel', 'Istanbul' is actually 'Anna Ng', etc. Not sure how far this goes, but double-check before you download.

Awesome Live Album (Mostly)

Fruitmech

Yeah all hail TMBG. They Might Be Giants is one of the smartest bands out there, proving that you don't have to be cool and follow the trends set by the rest of the music world. They pretty much do their own thing and their fans love them for it. This is one of my favorite albums from them as it contains so many great live versions of most of their greatest hits. Why does the sun shine, Istanbul, Bird house... The list goes on. The last six tracks are just them being them at one of their shows and are not neccasary unless you enjoy that kinnda stuff, overall I would say that this is a great album to get if you are a new fan or if you just want a great TMBG disc.

They Say All Music Guide

On their very first live album, Severe Tire Damage, intellectual rockers They Might Be Giants offer a best-of set, which contains mostly radical reworkings of fan favorites. The reason for the emergence of a live album came about when TMBG played a successful radio session for the Spin Radio Network, where the duo was joined by its touring band as well as horn players and a rhythm section. They were so impressed with the results that they almost immediately went back and picked out versions of songs that sounded totally different live when compared to the original studio versions (especially the songs “She’s Actual Size” and “Why Does the Sun Shine?”). Included are the “hits” “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” and “Particle Man,” as well as the brand new track “Doctor Worm.” To prove that they haven’t lost their quirky edge, the album ends with seven unlisted tracks that were written on the spot, in front of their audience. – Greg Prato
