The Best Carols for Chorus!

klassicjazz

First off, forget Mr. Batdorf's blurb under "They Say..." This is most definitely not "easy-listening"; all of the arrangements are very high quality, and many are worthy of Handel himself. Syrupy?!? Mainstream?!? Not a chance. I would particularly highlight O Come, O Come Emmanuel, My Dancing Day, The Holly and the Ivy, Touro-louro-louro!, and Susanni as stand-out tracks. Enjoy!

A Christmas Must!

Jersey-AJ

I can't remember the year I purchased this album but I am so grateful I did. The breathtaking sound of the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers performing classic Christmas songs is enough to transport you to a serene winter meadow in your mind. Truly Christmas is not complete without their heavenly voices singing praises for an absolutely blessed holiday. If you're looking for beautiful and inspiring Christmas music and you have to pick one album to get it from, look no further, you've found it.

They Say All Music Guide

Robert Shaw’s Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymn is an easy listening collection of classic carols and hymns. There are no contemporary songs — it is supposed to capture the spirit of an olde-tyme Christmas. Since Shaw’s arrangements are a little syrupy and mainstream, it doesn’t quite reach its goal, but it’s nevertheless a fairly entertaining listen that would work nicely as holiday background music. – Rodney Batdorf
