Aaron Thomas, Follow The Elephants
2008 | Label: Recordings From The Other Side / Popstock

Australian singer-songwriter Aaron Thomas has the kind of unique, affecting voice that sets him apart from the coffeehouse folk-pop crowd. It's a quavering lilt, indebted to everyone from Elvis Costello to Edith Piaf — the high-register vibrato might be slightly off-putting at first, but chances are you will be won over by Thomas 'singularity and sincerity. The music on Follow the Elephants is a gypsy-jazzier affair than you might expect, with some muted horns and waltz rhythms peppered throughout. Start with "Any One," a minor chord shuffle with Thomas 'unique pipes featured front-and-center.

Aaron Thomas--Follow The Elephants--Great Album

macgrad86

I liked the free track offered, so I checked out the other songs. I ended up buying the album because I loved what I heard. Since I am the grandmother of teenagers, I would say the album has broad appeal. I am looking forward to hearing more from Aaron Thomas. Give him a listen--you won't be sorry.

lovely chap to boot

demonick

I was lucky enough to be invited by my neighbour to come and see aaron when he played in adelaide recently. It was in the front bar of a pub in the city, with people talking and blah, your usual front bar stuff. Aaron opened his mouth and this voice emerged that cut through all the crap. It was a moment I was immensely grateful to have been there for. Not only can he sing beautifully he is a lovely geezer to boot. I hope he gets the recognition he so truly deserves cos he has all that a person can want in the world. A hobby that morphs into a job. My hat is off to anyone who has a jobby. Thanks for a great night aaron.

I sort of liked the look of the album cover at first but when I really listened to the music I found it totally addictive.

Stunning Debut

Oryol

It’s easy to see why there’s so much excitement about this guy. His voice makes you stop in your tracks (hint – don’t listen to this while crossing busy roads), shifting smoothly from intimate to edgy to soulful. Then there’s the maturity of the songwriting; deceptively simple with subtle lyrics supported by melodies which will stay with you forever. Skilled musicianship and delicate orchestration complete the package on a stunning debut. Remember the name: Aaron Thomas is surely destined to become one of the most important singer/songwriters of his generation.
