blue jeans & white t-shirts

A great set, overall, and Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts is a wistful fade for this refreshing four pack of charged musicianship.

EP > LP

I just listened to this for the first time in about a year and was surprised to find myself liking it even more than their well-praised "'59 Sound" LP. Highly recommended for those who like gritty working-class rock in the Springsteen/ Replacements/Social Distortion vein.

Leaves you wanting more

Four perfect rock songs that perfectly demonstrate the surprising dynamics of this band. An excellent introduction if you're just discovering them, and an excellent addition to hold you off until the next full length if you've played (and absolutely loved) Sink or Swim as much as I have. The best thing I can say is get all four of these, and then definitely get Sink or Swim if you like what you hear...and prepare to say you've found your new favorite band.

Awesome throwback rock. These guys layout it down even tighter than the full length. Check it out.

Tides you Over ...

It's like an appetizer, making you hungry for more. These four songs should tide over rabid Gaslight fans anxious for their followup to 2007's excellent Sink Or Swim. "Blue Jeans and T-shirts" ... Amazing.

But the Boss isn't the only hungry-hearted Jersey musician who's managed to get on the map. Herewith, an annotated atlas of where a few home-state heroes got their start. Click the… more »

Six Degrees of Boston

By Jayson Greene, International Editor

It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not. It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »
